RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017

Heralded as the world’s most prestigious horticultural event, the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show 2017, opens to the public from Tuesday 23rd May 2017 until Saturday 27th May 2017.  Visitors will be treated to exhibits showcasing the latest new plant introductions, alongside beautiful gardens, which demonstrate the latest ideas in garden and landscape design, many of which feature new, rare, unusual, and interesting plants, together with much loved old favourites.

New Introductions from David Austin Roses for 2017

Whenever I visit the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, I always rush over to David Austin Roses stand, with a great sense of anticipation, hope, and excitement in my heart to see David Austin’s newly unveiled roses.  I am always as keen as mustard to discover for myself the fragrances of David Austin’s latest rose releases, which are launched at this prestigious flower show each year.

White Orchid BiOrbAir Terrarium Trial

The simplicity and beauty of white flowers are enjoyed and appreciated by many of us.  I have received many requests to plant up a terrarium with white flowered, miniature, epiphytic orchids, so I have now emptied and re-planted my specialised, automated, BiOrbAir terrarium, which was designed by Barry Reynolds and is available from BiOrb, with a variety of white-flowering orchids, to showcase how beautiful a single colour planting scheme for terrariums, vivariums, orchidariums, or bottle gardens can be.

Beautiful, Easy to Grow Cut Flowers to Sow in April

I’d like to introduce you to some of my favourite cut flowers; these beautiful, easy to grow flowers, don’t require any cosseting.  You can sow these flowers from seed this month, directly where they are to flower, so there’s no messing about with potting seedlings on, and no need for a greenhouse or any special kit or equipment.

There are so many fabulous varieties of Nigella available.

Protecting your Plants from Slugs and Snails

For many gardeners, the slug and snail population seemed to explode in 2016, with many fraught and distressed gardeners asking for my advice on the best way to protect their plants from slugs and snails.  I am strongly opposed to slug pellets.  I wouldn’t wish to kill any of the slugs or snails in my garden as I believe a healthy eco system is important.

General Terrarium Maintenance and Plant Care for the BiOrbAir Terrarium

Apart from your plants, everything else you need to plant up your BiOrbAir terrarium is included when you buy your BiOrbAir – it all arrives together in one wonderful, ginormous box!

I find my BiOrbAir terrariums easy to look after and care for.  I love growing miniature orchids, ferns, and other terrarium plants inside the BiOrbAir terrarium.  Here is a guide to the regular, general terrarium maintenance, and plant care that I give to my BiOrbAir terrariums.

Peat Free Compost Trial 2016

I have always loved our natural world.  I have always wished to protect every important habitat for plants, animals, and nature, all over the world.  I am passionate about protecting the rainforests and the many other wonderful, precious environments and habitats that exist on Earth, including peat bogs.  Peat bogs are amazing environments, covering just 2-3% of the planet’s surface.  Many of the special, rare, and interesting plants which are found growing in peat bogs can only be grown in the specific conditions found at these sites, and consequently if the conditions change, or the habitat is destroyed, the plants and the ecosystem that had evolved in that area is also lost.

Beautiful, British Grown Flowers for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day 2017

The beautiful flowers in this article’s cover photograph are from The Great British Florist, these flowers were photographed on the 19th January 2017.

I love flowers!  I cut flowers, stems, and seed heads, and gather pinecones, leaves, and all manner of natural materials from my garden and allotment, to bring indoors all through the year.  Seasonal flowers brighten my home, and bring cheer to my day.

A long-term review of the BiOrbAir (part ten)

Welcome to the tenth installment of my long-term BiOrbAir review.  I planted up my BiOrbAir, a specialised, automated terrarium, designed by Barry Reynolds from Reef One, on 25th September 2014.  As this was the first time I had planted a BiOrbAir terrarium, I chose a variety of different terrarium plants and ferns to trial, so that I could monitor how successfully these plants, each of which have differing requirements, would grow inside the controlled environment of this terrarium.
