I caught up with designer Adam Frost at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, to find out more about the Gold Medal winning garden, The Homebase Garden – An Urban Retreat, which Adam designed for the 2015 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Pumpkin Beth: What’s your favourite part of the garden?
Adam Frost: You know what, there’s a view from the front of the garden, and all the Taxus domes literally bounce their way up the garden, so you need to see the garden from the front. The domes go boom-boom-boom-boom-boom all the way through the borders and they sit and they finish in the lawn, so I love that view.
PumpkinBeth: Do you have a favourite plant?
Adam Frost: To be fair, there’s there’s always one plant that works really well, and I think the Geums, they’ve worked really well in this garden, they’ve picked up the colour of the Cedar and they’ve bounced away, there’s always that one plant that holds everything together.
Pumpkin Beth: Yes, they really helped you yesterday when it was gloomy, the Geums sung out.
Adam Frost: Yes, they sung out. It didn’t help my bones, I got soaked in the morning, and I couldn’t get warm.
Pumpkin Beth: Did Homebase supply all your plants?
Pumpkin Beth: I love the area at the very back of your garden with the ferns, Hostas, and Aquilegia, it’s so different from the rest of your garden and so unexpected. I hope all the visitors see this hidden part of your garden.
Adam Frost: There’s a different charm, a surprise I suppose.
Pumpkin Beth: Whose is your favourite garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show?
Adam Frost: I haven’t been anywhere! Literally since the 28th April, I haven’t seen anything. Dan Pearson’s garden will be a piece of work, I’ve seen that going in and out.
