This table shows the number of seedlings that survived to be planted out, for each sowing period and planting type. Eight seeds were planted of each variety at each sowing stage. You can see from the averages/totals, that Ida King had very low germination and survival rates relative to other varieties. Similarly, the 10th October and 12th March sowings were very unsuccessful – fewer than half the seedlings made it into the ground. Thankfully, we can normalise for these discrepancies by calculating the flowering rate per plant, and extrapolating the data for flowers picked on the plants which did survive.
