I love snowdrops!  Here are the details of some of the beautiful gardens where you can see collections of snowdrops, there are details of snowdrop study days, open days, talks, lectures, and other lovely snowdrop events for 2017.  It might seem as if I am posting this a little early, but for some snowdrop events places are limited and prior booking is required – I don’t want any of my readers to miss out.

Harveys Garden Plants, Great Green, Thurston, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP31 3SJ, are holding their annual Snowdrop Day from 10am until 2pm, on Saturday 21st January 2017.  This lovely celebration of snowdrops is a chance to see and buy rare snowdrop varieties from Harveys Garden Plants, Glen Chantry, Richard Bashford, John Foster, Michael Broadhurst, Avon Bulbs, and Edulis Nursery.   Attendees of this special event will receive 20% off purchases of perennials (excluding bulbs) from Harveys Garden Plants on the day, there is also the opportunity to receive expert advice from galanthophiles, snowdrop specialists, and collectors.  Light refreshments will be available all day in the cafe.  Entrance is £2.50 per person, £2 for RHS members, customers usually start queuing outside the nursery from 8.30am.

From Thursday 26th January 2017 to Wednesday 15th March 2017, Greenbank Garden, Flenders Road, Clarkston, Glasgow, G76 8RB, will be opening from 9.30am until 5pm, for the National Trust for Scotland Snowdrop Festival, for all the details, please click here.

On Saturday 28th January 2017, Myddelton House Gardens, Bulls Cross, Enfield, Middlesex, EN2 9HG, have their Ultimate Snowdrop Sale, which opens from 10.30am until 12 noon.

The Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London, SW3 4HS, are holding special Snowdrop Days from Saturday 28th January 2017 to Friday 3rd February 2017, the garden will be opening from 10am until 4pm each day.   Nick Bailey, the Head Gardener at the Chelsea Physic Garden, and his team will be proudly displaying their snowdrop collection.  A huge range of rare and unusual snowdrops and spring bulbs will be offered for sale in the Plant Marquee, and snowdrop themed books and gifts will be available to purchase in the book and gift shop.  Volunteer guides will be leading free tours of the gardens.  Entry is free to friends of the Chelsea Physic Garden, £10.50 for adults, and £6.95 for children, students, and job seekers.

The Chelsea Physic Garden are holding a number of snowdrop events, on Saturday 28th January 2017, at 11.30am, and again at 1pm, The Chelsea Physic Garden Head Gardener, Nick Bailey will giving a ‘Best in Snow’ tour of the gardens.  Also on Saturday 28th January 2017, at 2.30pm, snowdrop expert, Joe Sharman, from Monksilver Nursery will be giving a talk about ‘Sensational Snowdrops’.  Then on Sunday 29th January 2017, at 2.30pm, snowdrop expert, John Grimshaw, will be giving a talk entitled ‘Galanthus Galore’.  These three events are included in the ticket price to visit the garden.

From Saturday 28th January 2017 to Wednesday 15th March 2017, House of Dun and Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, Montrose, Scotland, DD10 9LQ, will be opening for the National Trust for Scotland Snowdrop Festival 2017.  A special one off Snowdrop afternoon tea will be held on Saturday 19th February 2017 in the saloon of the house, where freshly baked scones will be served.  For all the details, please click here.

On Sunday 29th January 2017, at the Chelsea Physic Garden, from 10am until 4.30pm, Photographer Sue Bishop, is running a one day course about ‘Photographing Snowdrops’, places are limited and pre-booking is required, tickets are £105, which includes lunch.  On Thursday 2nd February 2017, from 11.30am until 1pm, Chelsea Physic Garden Head Gardener, Nick Bailey is leading a ‘Behind the Scenes Snowdrop Tour’, pre-booking is required, tickets are £29.  Then on Friday 10th February 2017, from 9.30am until 4pm, Botanical Artist, Lucy T. On Sunday 29th January 2017, Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery, Langmere Road, Langmere, Near Dickleburgh, Diss, Norfolk, IP21 4QA, were due to be holding their Snowdrop DaySadly I have heard that this event has now been cancelled.

This year the National Garden Scheme‘s Snowdrop Festival, will see around ninety snowdrop gardens opening especially for the NGS during February 2017.  You can find all the information about the NGS Snowdrop Festival, with the details of which gardens are opening on the NGS website here.

Dawyck Botanic Gardens, Stobo, near Peebles, in the Scottish Borders, EH45 9JU, are open daily from 1st February 2017, from 10am until 4pm.  Dawyck is a truly wonderful, beautiful, very steep, hilly, woodland garden, which features beautiful swathes of snowdrops during February and March each year.  Entrance is £6.50 for adults, £5.50 for concessions, free for children and essential carers, and RBGE members enter free of charge.  For all the details, please click here.

Kailzie Gardens, Kailzie, Peebles, Scottish Borders, EH45 9HT, boasts a beautiful woodland garden with swathes of snowdrops, Kailzie Gardens are a lovely place to take a snowdrop walk.  Kailzie Gardens are open daily, for all the details, please click here.

East Lambrook Manor Gardens, East Lambrook, South Petherton, Somerset, TA13 5HH, will be opening from the 1st February 2017, from 10am until 5pm, from Tuesday to Sunday each week during February (East Lambrook Manor Gardens are always closed on Mondays).  During March, East Lambrook Manor Gardens will be opening from Tuesday, until Saturday each week, when they will be closed on Sundays and Mondays during March.  East Lambrook Gardens are opening for the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday 19th February 2017.

Spring Platt, Boyton Court Road, Sutton Valence, Maidstone, Kent ME17 3BY, is opening from 10am until 4pm on Wednesday 1st February 2017, Saturday 4th February 2017, Sunday 5th February 2017, and Wednesday 8th February 2017 for the NGS.  Spring Platt is a garden under continuous development, it extends to an acre in size, and features over 600 snowdrop varieties.  Another snowdrop garden, Knowle Hill Farm is nearby, for all the details, please click here.

Cambo Snowdrops in Fife, Scotland, supply snowdrops in the green, as well as Leucojum vernum, wild garlic and aconites.  Cambo is a great garden to visit, with 70 acres of snowdrop woods to explore, Cambo’s Snowdrop Festival runs from 3rd February 2017 through until 12th March 2017.

Scone Palace, Perth, Scotland, PH2 6BD, will be opening from Friday 3rd February 2017 to Sunday 5th February 2017, again from Friday 10th February 2017 to Sunday 12th February 2017, again from Friday 17th February 2017 to Sunday 19th February 2017, again from Friday 24th February 2017 to Sunday 26th February 2017, again from Friday 3rd March 2017 to Sunday 5th March 2017, and lastly from Friday 10th March 2017 to Sunday 12th March 2017, for a Celebration of Snowdrops.  The gardens will be opening from 10am until 4pm, visitors can enjoy seeing the snowdrops, the majority of which are varieties of Galanthus nivalis, throughout the 100 acres of gardens and grounds.

The Alpine Garden Society are holding their annual Snowdrop Day on Saturday 4th February 2017, at Ford Hall, Lilleshall National Conferencing Centre, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 9AT.  The AGS Snowdrop Day features snowdrop lectures from John Grimshaw, Vojtech Holubec, who will be talking about ‘Snowdrops in the Wild’, and Joe Sharman, who’s talk is entitled ‘Autumn Snowdrops’.  There will also be a snowdrop question and answer session.  Attendees can also purchase snowdrops at the Plant Sale, which is open until 4.30pm, nurseries attending include: Avon Bulbs, Monksilver, Glen Chantry, Woodchippings, Ivycroft, and Rudi and Ingrid Bauer from Germany.  This is a popular event where the tickets are sold in advance, and places are limited – it’s wise to buy your tickets early.  For all the information, please click here.

On Saturday 4th February 2017, a Snowdrop Gala, with other spring treasures, will be held at Ballykealey Manor Hotel, near Altamont, Ballon, Carlow, Ireland.  Botanist, Nurseryman, and gardener, Julian Sutton, will be giving a talk entitled ‘Snowdrops in Context’, and Gardener, Nurseryman, and Plant Breeder, Kevin Hughes, will be speaking about the ‘Glories of the Spring Garden’ at this special snowdrop event.  In the afternoon, there will be a guided tour of Altamont with Paul Cutler.  Avon Bulbs, Altamont Plants, Coosheen Plants, Desirable Plants, and Kevin Hughes Plants, will all be at the Plant and Bulb Sale.  Tickets are €70 if purchased before the 30th January 2017 and include lectures, lunch at Ballykealey Manor, admission to the bulb sale, a guided tour, and afternoon tea and cake at Altamont.  To book your place at this special Snowdrop Gala, or for more details, contact Hester Forde of Coosheen Garden – you can telephone Hester on 086 865 4972 or email – hesterforde@gmail.com, or alternatively contact Robert Miller of Altamont Plants – telephone Robert on 087 982 2135 or email sales@altamontplants.com

Colesbourne Park offer private, weekday snowdrop tours for groups, clubs and societies during February 2017.  Tours are guided by Sir Henry Elwes or Lady Elwes, together with Colesbourne Park’s Head Gardener, Arthur Cole, and give a uniquely personal look at the snowdrop collection and the gardens.  Tours start at 11am or 2 pm, prior booking is required, for all the details, please click here.

Hodsock Priory, Blyth, Nottinghamshire, S81 0TY, open their Woodland Walk with Snowdrops, from Saturday 4th February 2017 to Sunday 5th March 2017.  Visitors can enjoy the beautiful carpets of snowdrops.  Every day the Tea Room, Plant Sale – where you’ll find a number of different snowdrop varieties offered for sale, and Gift Shop will be open.  Talks are held every day at 2pm in the glade by the Woodland Cafe, for all the details, please click here.

Valleyfield Woodland Park, Near Shiresmill, Dunfermline, Scotland, KY12 8ER, will be opening from Saturday 4th February 2017 to Sunday 5th February 2017, again from Saturday 11th February 2017 to Sunday 12th February 2017, again from Saturday 18th February 2017 to Sunday 19th February 2017, again from Saturday 25th February 2017 to Sunday 26th February 2017, again from Saturday 4th March 2017 to Sunday 5th March 2017, and lastly from Saturday 11th March 2017 to Sunday 12th March 2017.  Valleyfield Woodland Park features the remnants of the only Humphry Repton designed landscape in Scotland.  Swathes of naturalised snowdrops have spread across the park.  Valleyfield Woodland Park are opening as part of the Celebration of Snowdrops, for the Scottish Snowdrop Festival, as part of Fife’s Snowdrops Spectacular.  Experienced guides will lead walks at 2pm each weekend, for all the details, please click here.

Gatton Park, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0TD.  The Park and Gardens at Gatton Park were originally laid out by Capability Brown.  Snowdrops can be seen primarily at the Rock Garden, though some snowdrops can also be found in the Japanese Garden at Gatton Park.  Visitors can spot Galanthus nivalis f. pleniflorus ‘Flore Pleno’Galanthus nivalis, Galanthus elwesii, Galanthus woronowii, and Galanthus ‘S. Arnott’ in the grounds of Gatton Park.

Gatton Park will be opening their Park and Gardens on Sunday 5th February 2017, from 1pm until 5pm, to allow visitors to see their display of snowdrops.  Gatton Park are also opening on Sunday 12th February 2017 for the National Gardens Scheme, from 11am until 4pm.  Gatton Park are holding a Snowdrop Week from Monday 13th February 2017, to Friday 17th February 2017, when the Park and Gardens will be open daily, from 1pm until 5pm.  The Park and Gardens will also be open on Sunday 19th February 2017, from 1pm until 5pm, for a Snowdrop Day, and again on Sunday 26th February 2017, for their final Snowdrop Day, when the Park and Gardens will be open from 1pm until 5pm.  Entry to the Park and Gardens at Gatton Park is is £5 for adults, children enter for free.  For more details, please click here.  Please note Gatton Park is not an accessible garden for wheelchair users.  The Rock Garden features many uneven steps that are difficult to negotiate, and the grounds feature rough, uneven paths, and steep slopes.

On Tuesday 7th February 2017 Ashwood Nurseries, Ashwood Lower Lane, Kingswinford, West Midlands, DY6 0AE, are holding morning and afternoon snowdrop lectures and a garden tour.  Galanthophile Eddie Roberts, will be giving a lecture entitled ‘Snowdrops from Landscape to the Cabinet of Curiosities’, and there will be the opportunity to visit John’s Garden.  Tickets are booked in advance, for all the information, please click here.

From Wednesday 8th February 2017 until Sunday 5th March 2017, from 12 noon until 4pm, Benington Lordship Gardens, Benington Lordship, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG2 7BS, are holding their Snowdrop Open Days, where visitors can admire the large drifts of snowdrops that feature in the gardens, the garden features many other plants with winter interest, such as hellebores, aconites, and winter flowering shrubs.  Benington Lordship Gardens have a collection of rare and unusual snowdrops, including two hundred labelled snowdrop varieties.  Single and double snowdrops, together with a limited number of named snowdrop varieties will be offered for sale, for all the details, please click here.

At Welford Park, Welford, Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 8HU, you can visit their wonderful beech woods which are underplanted with carpets of Galanthus nivalis, the rarer snowdrop varieties can be found in the formal gardens.  The gardens at Welford Park are open from Wednesday 1st February 2017 until Sunday 5th March 2017, opening from Wednesday to Sunday, 11am until 4pm.  Please note – the gardens at Welford Park are always closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Welford Park is a private home, please check their opening times before visiting the gardens.  The Welford Park Plant Fair is a specialist plant fair specialising in winter and spring flowering plants and bulbs and seeds for the summer, it’s held at the beautiful Welford Park in Berkshire on Thursday 23rd February 2017 from 11am until 4pm, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  The Snowdrop Tearoom will also be open, and there’s a plant creche.

On Saturday 11th February 2017, RHS Garden Rosemoor, Torrington, Devon, EX38 8PH, are holding a Snowdrop Day, with Trevor Wiltshire – Trevor was the superintendent of the rock garden at RHS Wisley.  There will be a talk in the morning, and a guided garden walk after lunch.  Places are limited and pre-booking is required, for all the details, please click here.

On Saturday 11th February 2017 and Sunday 12th February 2017, Hanwell Community Observatory, Banbury, North Oxfordshire, OX17 1HN, are holding their annual Stars and Snowdrops Event, where visitors can take a woodland walk amongst vast, ancient, snowdrop colonies, see the progress being made on the Millennium Telescope, talk to the astronomers, and have an opportunity to look through astronomical telescopes, with tea and cake by a log fire to follow.  For all the details, please click here.

On Saturday 11th February 2017, Shaftsbury Snowdrops, Shaftesbury Arts Centre, 13 Bell Street, Shaftesbury, SP7 8AR, are holding a Snowdrop Study Day, Sale and Social Day, from 9am until 4pm.  This special day will feature talks from Tom Mitchell – ‘Extreme Snowdropping’ – Adventures in Search of Wild Snowdrops’, and Alan Street – ‘Every Last Drop’, followed by a plant sale and lunch.  The options for the afternoon include, a secret woodland snowdrop visit, or a talk by The Right Honourable The Lord Heseltine CH PC ‘Thenford: The Creation of an English Garden’.  Places are limited and tickets must be booked in advance, for all the details, please click here.

Easton Walled Gardens, Easton, Grantham, NG33 5AP, have a Snowdrop Week from Saturday 11th February 2017 to Sunday 19th February 2017, opening from 11am until 4pm each day.  Visitors can admire the gardens’ collection of snowdrops and other winter flowers such as cyclamen, aconites, iris, crocus, and hellebores.  For all the details of Easton Walled Gardens’ Snowdrop Week, please click here.

On Sunday 12th February 2017, Manor of Dean, Tillington, Petworth, West Sussex, GU28 9AP, will be opening from 2pm until 4pm for the NGS Snowdrop Festival.  Manor of Dean is a three acre garden which features a variety of spring flowering bulbs, including snowdrops.

On Sunday 12th February 2017, Margaret Stone will be opening her one and a half acre garden: Brockamin, Old Hills, Callow End, Worcestershire, WR2 4TQ, to celebrate 60 years of the Hardy Plant Society.  Brockamin will be open from 11am to 4pm, admission is £3.  Visitors can enjoy seeing a variety of different snowdrops in this informal garden, and there will also be the opportunity for visitors to purchase plants.

On Sunday 12th February 2017 and Sunday 19th February 2017, Goldsborough Hall, Church Street, Goldsborough, North Yorkshire, HG5 8NR, are opening from 10am until 4pm, for their Snowdrop Days.  Visitors can enjoy walking in eleven acres of grounds and gardens featuring the single snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis, and the double snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis f. pleniflorus ‘Flore Pleno’, as well as a Species Snowdrop Walk, which features forty rare varieties of snowdrops, for all the details, please click here.

Also on Sunday 12th February 2017, Hopetoun House, South Queensferry, Edinburgh, EH30 9SL, will be opening from 11am until 4pm, so that visitors can enjoy their snowdrops as part of the Scottish Snowdrop Festival.  The Hopetoun Ranger will be leading a guided walk at 2pm, if you’d like to join the guided walk, you need to book your place in advance.  For all the details, please click here.

On Wednesday 15th February 2017, Colesbourne Park, Gloucestershire, GL53 9NP, are holding a Snowdrop Study Day, from 10am until 3.30pm.  There will be a welcome from Colesbourne’s Head Gardener Arther Cole, followed by a talk given by Snowdrop Expert John Grimshaw, entitled ‘Snowdrops and Good Plants for the Winter Garden’.  This will be followed by an opportunity to take a tour of the snowdrop garden at Colesbourne, after which there will be a lunch break.  In the afternoon, American galanthophile, Judge Ernest Cavallo, will be giving a talk entitled ‘Galanthia – the American State of Snowdrops’.  There will be plants for sale at this special event, for all the details, please click here.

Knowle Hill Farm, Ulcombe, Maidstone, Kent, ME17 1ES,  will be opening on Thursday 16th February 2017, from 11am until 3pm, for the NGS.  This two acre garden, which is situated on the south facing slopes of the North Downs, has been in creation for the past thirty years.  Visitors can enjoy the gardens’ snowdrops, hellebores, and topiary, as well as hot sausage rolls on this special open day.  The owner of Knowle Hill Farm is happy to receive small groups of visitors with prior notice during February, please see Knowle Hill Farm’s website for contact details.  Spring Platt is another snowdrop garden that is near Knowle Hill Farm, for all the details, please click here.

Thenford Gardens and Arboretum, in Northamptonshire, are opening from 2pm until 5.30pm, for a special Snowdrop Day on Friday 17th February 2017.  Tickets are £8 per person and are available in advance, for all the details, please click here.

Bruckhills Croft Gardens, Bruckhills Croft, Rothienorman, Inverurie, AB51 8YB, will be opening by prior arrangement from Saturday 18th February 2017 to Sunday 19th March 2017.  Please telephone the garden owners to make an appointment to view the gardens, which feature 320 different snowdrop cultivars, for all the details, please click here.

On Saturday 18th February 2017 and Sunday 19th February 2017, Primrose Bank Nursery, Red Roofs, Dauby Lane,  Kexby, York, North Yorkshire, YO41 5LH, will be opening their developing snowdrop garden from 10am until 4pm for the Yorkshire Snowdrop Trail, to raise funds and awareness for the Anthony Nolan Trust.  Martin Fish and Michael Myers and will be giving talks and hosting a Gardeners’ Question Time on Sunday 19th February 2017.  Anne Wright from Dryad Nursery will be selling snowdrops, narcissi and other delights.  A special Galanthus ‘Dryad Gold Sovereign’ plant will be auctioned at 1.30pm on Sunday 19th February 2017 at Primrose Bank Nursery, with proceeds going to the Anthony Nolan Trust.  Hellebores and early spring plants will be available in the nursery, refreshments will also be available.  For more information: to visit Primrose Bank Nursery’s Facebook Page, please click here, or to visit their website, please click here.

On Saturday 18th February 2017, the Snowdrop Group of The Cottage Garden Society will be meeting at the Godolphin School in Salisbury, Wiltshire, where Garden Historian Jennifer Harmer, will be giving a talk entitled ‘Meet the Galanthophiles’, and Chris Horsfall will be giving a talk entitled ‘Never Waste a Bulb.  The garden year as Head Gardener at Colesbourne Park 2012 – 2016’.  The following snowdrop nurseries will be in attendance for the Snowdrop Sale: Matt Bishop, Glen Chantry, Anne and Mike Broadhurst, Olga and Tennant Barber, and Paul Barney from Edulis.  The garden visits will be to Heale Gardens and Westcroft.  For all the details, please click here.

Snowdrop Sensation, a Snowdrop Plant Fair will be held on Sunday 19th February 2017 at Great Comp Gardens, Comp Lane, Platt, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN15 8QS, opening from 10am until 12 noon – though the gardens will be open until 4pm.  Nurseries will be selling snowdrops and early spring flowering plants.  Award-winning writer, photographer, and lecturer, Val Bourne, will be giving a talk entitled ‘The Snowdrop Vortex – One Woman’s Obsession With The White Stuff’, from 11.30am until 12.15pm, in the Indoor Theatre at Great Comp Gardens, for all the details, please click here.  Great Comp Gardens are usually closed during February, so this special day is a lovely opportunity to view Great Comp’s collection of snowdrops, hellebores and other winter flowering plants.  For all the details, please click here.

The Hardy Plant Society’s Galanthus Group are holding their AGM and Study Day on Sunday 19th February 2017, at Chedworth Village Hall, Chedworth, Gloucestershire, GL54 4NE, from 9.30am until 4pm.  Attendees will enjoy two talks – the first talk will be given by Julian Sutton on ‘The Origins of the Diversity of Garden Plants’, and the second talk, ‘Species Snowdrops’, will be delivered by Jim Almond.  Delegates will be able to visit either Cerney House Gardens or the garden of John Sales, and a Plant Sale will also held at this event.  Please note, this event is only open to members of the Hardy Plant Society and the HPS Galanthus Group, for all the details including information on joining these lovely groups, please click here.

Forde Abbey, in Somerset, has Snowdrop Weekends every weekend in February.  There’s a Plant and Gardening Fair at Forde Abbey on Sunday 5th March 2017, where you can purchase snowdrops and other spring flowering plants.

Westlands Court, Cowfold Road, West Grinsteed, Horsham, Sussex, RH13 8LZ, will be opening on Saturday 25th February 2017, from 11am until 4pm, for the NGS Snowdrop Festival.

Gilbert White’s House and Garden, The Wakes, Selborne, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 3JH, are holding a Snowdrop Weekend on Saturday 25th February 2017, and Sunday 26th February 2017.  Free tours (the tours are included in the regular admission fee) will be held at regular intervals over the weekend.  To book your place on a tour and for further details, please click here.

Shepherd House Garden, Inveresk, Midlothian, EH21 7TH, is a one acre garden with a growing collection of snowdrops.  This private garden is opening on Saturday 25th February 2017 and Sunday 26th February 2017, from 11am until 4pm, this is a charity opening, in aid of ‘Scotland’s Gardens‘ and Plantlife Scotland for Coronation Meadows.  For all the details, please click here.

On Sunday 26th February 2017, The Old Vicarage, The Street, Washington, West Sussex, RH20 4AS, will be opening from 11am until 3pm, for the NGS Snowdrop Festival.

On Sunday 26th February 2017, the Scottish Rock Garden Club are holding their Snowdrop Day at Westmuir Hall.  Starting at 10am, the day will include a presentation by snowdrop expert and author, Matt Bishop, followed by a visit to Brechin Castle to see the snowdrops there.  Lunch will be taken at Brechin Castle’s Garden Centre, or you can bring your own lunch if you prefer.  After lunch attendees will travel to Maulsden to view special colonies of Galanthus plicatus, and take a walk around a million or more Galanthus nivalis flowers.  Tea and coffee is provided at the hall.  Places for this lovely day are limited – there are just a few places remaining, these need to be booked in advance, please contact Ian Christie on ianchristie@btconnect.com for more details, and/or to book your place.

On Saturday 26th February 2017 and Sunday 5th March 2017, Chestnut Farm, Church Road, West Beckham Holt, Norfolk, NR25 6NX, will be opening from 11am until 4pm, for the NGS.  This three acre garden features over 100 different varieties of snowdrop, early spring flowering bulbs, and a variety of shrubs.  Visiting nurseries will be offering plants for sale, light refreshments are also available, for all the details, please click here.

On Tuesday 28th February 2017, West Green House Gardens, Thackham’s Lane, Hook, RG27 8JB, are holding a Snowdrop Lunch, from 11am until 3pm.   Starting with coffee, which will be followed by a talk by snowdrop specialist Min Woods.  Min will be joined by Dr Ronald Mackenzie, who will be bringing some of his snowdrop collection with him to enhance the event.  Guests will enjoy a two course lunch including wine, and a chance to view the gardens at West Green House a day before their official opening for the season.  For all the details, please click here.

On Sunday 11th March 2017, Langley Park Gardens, Montrose, Angus, DD10 9LG, are opening as part of the Snowdrop Festival from 10am until 4pm.  The 27 acres of gardens at Langley Park enjoy views over the Montrose basin, hills, and the sea beyond.  There are three walled gardens and large swathes of snowdrops for visitors to admire.  For all the details, please click here.

Snowdrops Further Afield

2017 marks the tenth anniversary of the flower bulb tour in East Groningen, Holland.  A large number of additional bulbs were planted last autumn to ensure a spectacular display for visitors to East Groningen in 2017 and beyond.  Each of the four gardens that open for this special event are very different, each garden has its own character and atmosphere.

East Groningen are holding special Snowdrop Sundays on Sunday 26th February 2017, and Sunday 5th March 2017.  Following the Snowdrop SundaysCrocus Sundays will be held on Sunday 16th April 2017, Sunday 23rd April 2017, and Sunday 30th April 2017.

The participating East Groningen Gardens are:

The Stonefarm’, Anna en Tinus Scheltens, Zijdstukkerweg 7, 9501 LB Stadskanaal
Visitors will find that even the roadsides outside this 
20.000 m2 garden are covered with spring flowering bulbs.  This landscape garden features a number of large boulders, and a large Snowdrop and Crocus meadow.  Admission is via an honesty box.

City Channel Garden’, Lida Lourens, H.J. Kniggestraat 101, 9501 NJ Stadskanaal
This 2.500m2 garden features an array of spring flowers, including a variety of different Snowdrops, Camellias, Crocus, Puschkinias, Muscari, Fritillaries, and Scillas.  In March and April visitors can also see Narcissus, Tulips, and early flowering Primulas.  Admission is €3.00 which includes coffee and cake.

Tuinfleur’, Rika en Pieter van Delden, Nieuweweg 34, 9682 RM Oostwold
This 6.000 m2, long (350m) and narrow garden, is divided into ten separate rooms.  Situated on the shores of the Oldambtlake, there are great variety of plants growing in this garden.  Visitors can admire thousands of Snowdrops, which include 150 different cultivars, there are also Scilla, Muscari, Chionodoxia, Narcisus, Tulips, Allium, Leucojum, and Hellebores.  Admission is €3.00 which includes coffee and cake.

Wubsbos’, Jannie Bos, St.Vitusholt 86, 9673 AK Winschoten
This 1.700 m2 woodland garden features carpets of early spring Snowdrops, which are followed by wild spring flowers and Narcissus, which cover the garden later in spring time.  Admission is via an honesty box.

The Dutch Sneeuwklokjesgala will be held on Sunday 5th February 2017, at Kalverringdijk 40, 1509 BT Zaandam, Nederland.  Matt Bishop will be giving a new talk at two different times at this special event.  The first talk will be at 11am, and the second talk will start at 2pm.  Matt Bishop will have some of his own snowdrops for sale, for all the details, please click here.
