Hogarth Hostas at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2018

I love to visit the Grand Pavilion at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show!  This vast arena, which extends to almost three acres in size, is filled with super exhibits created by around one hundred specialist nurseries during the week of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  It’s such a joy to visit!  If you’re looking for some new plants, and you don’t have a particular variety or species in mind, visiting specialist nurseries, or enjoying a day out at a specialist plant fair, or a flower show, such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show or the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, can help to connect you with your new favourite plant or plants!

Jonathan Hogarth holds a National Collection of Small and Miniature Hostas.  I always look forward to seeing Jonathan Hogarth’s Hosta exhibits, as Jonathan has so many charming Hostas in his collection, including many Hostas from the Mouse Series, which are a real delight!  These plants are easy to make room for, not only are they fun, charming, and rather endearing, but these Hostas are also small in size and stature, so they’re easy to accommodate!

There are so many different types of Hostas are available. You’ll find Hostas in every shade of green, and in many other shades too! Some Hostas have variegated leaves, while other Hostas have a more uniform colouration, some Hostas have wavy, rippled leaves, while other Hostas have smooth leaves. Whichever style you favour, you’re sure to find a new favourite!

Jonathan Hogarth always tells me that his newest Hosta is absolutely, always his favourite!  When I caught up with Jonathan at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2018, he was keen to show me Hosta ‘Mouse Capades’, his latest acquisition.  Hosta ‘Mouse Capades’ is a small Hosta, this new cultivar is a sport of Hosta ‘Mighty Mouse’, it produces small, ruffled leaves in a quite a glaucous tone of green, each wavy, rippled leaf is surrounded with a wide, creamy white margin.  This diminutive new Hosta produces pale lavender coloured flowers in summer.  There are only 80 Hosta ‘Mouse Capades’ plants outside of America, all of which are held by Jonathan and are available for sale from Hogarth Hostas.
