Living Willow Open Weekend – a chance to visit the National Collection of Willows!

On Thursday 31st July 2025, Friday 1st August 2025, Saturday 2nd August 2025, and Sunday 3rd August 2025, visit the National Collection of Willows from 10am until 4pm at West Wales Willows, The Mill, Gwernogle, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales, SA32 7SA. This as a OPEN AIR event in a sloping, damp field, so please plan for Welsh weather; wellies and waterproofs are strongly suggested. Justine and Alan are running guided tours at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Bring your own refreshments. Port-a-loo available. If you are interested in growing your own willow for basketry, living willow structures, bio fuel, ornamental use, early flowering nectar etc, then this is a great chance to find out more about willow. You will be able to see willow growing in situ; the autumn colours are just starting to come through. There are living willow domes, arches and fences. Over 260 willow varieties grow in the fields and they also have a field full of 4 years of SRC – Short Rotational Coppicing willow – used for fuel. Attendees can also pre-order cuttings and living willow on the day. Availability will be weather depending. A selection of baskets an willow items will also be available – some as commission only.
