The Markshall Estate open from 10am until 3.30pm from Tuesday to Sunday, every week. Last admission is at 2.30pm. The Arboretum and Gardens are locked at 3.45pm. Address: Markshall, Coggeshall, Essex, CO6 1TG. Whatever time of year you walk in Crowlands Wood you will stand a good chance of seeing the resident fallow deer that make these woods their home. On misty days the deer’s grunting during the rut echoes through the woods. In spring time, there is a carpet of bluebells in the woodlands, I’m told that nightingales and other spring migrants can be heard.
