Species Recovery Trust Online Talk: Around Britain in 30 Bryophytes

Date: Monday 28 February 2022

Monday 28th February 2022 from 9am until 12.30pm GMT.

Online course looking at the key bryophytes that are commonly found in grassland, heathland and woodland in lowland Britain
Around Britain in 30 bryophytes
Bryophytes often make up the final frontier in botanical knowledge, and though many people find and admire them, putting a name on them can be a different matter!
This course will run over 30 of the most common mosses and liverworts encountered in lowland Britain. It will focus on straightforward features that can be spotted in the field.

The ability to ID a small suite of bryophytes can make the difference between a moderate and excellent botanical survey, as well as enlivening a walk out and about at any time of year. This course won’t turn you into a bryologist overnight, but it will open up their world to you, as well as getting you confident with the common species you often encounter.

The course will include a pre-recorded tutorial, followed by a test then a 45 minute Zoom Q&A session.

All proceeds from the course will go to supporting our endangered species conservation work.

About the tutor:
Dominic Price is a highly regarded botanical tutor and has been running courses for all levels of ecologists and conservationists since 2007. He is director of the Species Recovery Trust and specialises in the conservation of endangered species. He is the author of A Field Guide to Grasses, Sedges and Rushes and co-author of The Photographic Guide to Winter Trees and Shrubs.

Having witnessed the pros and cons of various webinar hosting platforms during the pandemic we have made the decision to run the course via a pre-recorded Youtube video, followed by an optional test and live Zoom Q&A at the end. We hope this will allow all the attendees to easily follow the session, regardless of which hardware and software you are running it from.
