NGS Summer Opening at Goldsborough Hall

On Sunday 21st July 2024 – Goldsborough Hall, Church Street, Goldsborough, Near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, HG5 8NR will be opening from 11am until 5pm for the NGS. The grounds in July are full of interest. Garden highlights include the Rose Garden planted with old roses – Old China Blush, Little White Pet, and Comte de Chambord – interplanted with Lavender angustifolia ‘Old English and lined with lavender ‘Munstead’. The beech hedges were planted in Princess Mary’s time and the sundial in the centre is a gift to Princess Mary from the people of Horton, Oxon. The two 120ft herbaceous borders were planted in a Gertrude Jeykll style in 2006 and include ever-lasting sweetpeas, irises, helianthus, rudbeckia and dahlias. There are magnificent and ancient trees in the grounds including a giant redwood, a very rare sorbus, a pseudo acacia from the 1750s and one of the oldest horsechestnuts left standing in the country. A visit to Goldsborough Hall’s gardens would not be complete without a stroll up the quarter-mile Lime Tree Walk, planted by Royalty in the 1920s. Hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, scones can be purchased on the day. FREE garden talks at 12pm & 2pm by the head gardener, and they’ll be a plant stall on the terrace too.£7.50 per adult, children free. Dogs on leads most welcome.
