Thenford Study Day: Chipping and Twin Scaling Snowdrops and Daffodils

Thenford Gardens and Arboretum, in Northamptonshire, OX17 2BX, are opening from 9.30am until 4pm, for a special Study Day focusing on Chipping and Twin Scaling Snowdrop and Daffodil bulbs on Wednesday 5th June 2024. Come and learn the propagation art of chipping and twin scaling snowdrops and daffodils with Emma. You will have the opportunity to twin scale some named snowdrop varieties to take home with you. 9.30am Arrival and Refreshments. 9.50 Introductions. Session 1: Overview of Thenford bulb collections propagation technique demonstration hands on session. Mid morning break and discussion. Session 2: Hands on practical. Lunch. Session 3 – A choice of 1 or 2 named bulb to chip. Participants will then be able to walk around the Arboretum. 3.30/4.00pm Depart. What is chipping and twin-scaling? Simply put chipping and twin scaling is a method of propagation that takes advantage of the bulb’s natural survival instincts that when damaged it creates new bulblets. It can be used to bulk up a slow growing variety more efficiently or a new cultivar. It can also be used to restore a sick or damaged plant.
