Visitors can admire thousands of tulips, spring bedding, cherry and apple blossom, magnolias, early rhododendrons, hyacinths, primulas, camassias and bluebells at Hever Castle. This two week celebration will be split into two distinct spring ‘parties’; in week one visitors will be able to take one of the twice daily tours (11:30am/2pm) with the gardening team, while in week two the gardening team will be offering lively workshops like a ‘Scratch & Sniff’ hanging basket tutorial. Bluebells will be opening through the woodland beside Lake Walk enticing walkers and their four-legged friends to explore deeper into the lesser-known areas of the Estate. Self-guided tours will help visitors explore further afield and find the apple-blossom in Anne Boleyn’s Orchard, the rhododendrons beside the Golden Staircase, and the later daffodils on the banks beside Two Sisters Lawn. Head gardener Neil Miller says: “This is our first ever Celebration of Spring, in previous years we have celebrated the tulips in April, but in recent years visitors have been excited by the myriad of blossoms and spring flowers so we decided to dedicate a special fortnight to this wonderful time of year. “We are looking forward to hosting daily tours in week one and to providing some really unusual demonstrations in week two. I’m particularly looking forward to showing people how to create a special ‘Scratch & Sniff’ hanging basket full of aromatically important and stunningly visual plants that will produce blooms through the summer as well as important culinary treats for the pot!”. Week 1 : Monday 15th April 2024 to Friday 19th April 2024: two garden tours a day at 11:30am and 2pm (Just one on Saturday and Sunday at 11:30am). Week 2: Monday 22nd April 2024 to Friday 28th April 2024: Two workshops will be running daily. At 11:30am in garden exhibition Monday to Sunday a foam free flower arrangement demonstration will be given by florist Emma, then at 2pm the gardening team will give a demonstration on how to create a ‘Scratch & Sniff’ hanging basket of herbs.
