2023 Calendar of House Plant Fairs, Houseplant Swaps, & House Plant Sales
Here’s my calendar featuring the dates and details of plant sales, plant festivals, and other super opportunities to buy wonderful, locally grown plants! Great quality, rare, hard to find, unusual, choice plants and old favourites can all be found at the specialist plant fairs and other events that I have listed for you below.
This calendar is dynamic and will update as I add new events; don’t forget to check back for new events as I add them.
The events are grouped by geographical area, so you can use the filter hierarchy below to select and events near you – e.g., just click ‘Surrey’ to limit the page to only display events in the county of Surrey.
This 2023 calendar includes large-scale plant fairs as well as much smaller, local events, and everything in between! A large number of the events listed below benefit plant societies, local organisations, and charities, and have been arranged by volunteers. Many of the small organisations that run these events are dependent on others growing and delivering plants on the day – nothing is guaranteed! If you have any plants or seeds to donate, I am sure the charitable organisations listed below would be most grateful for your support.

Saturday 27 May 2023 - Monday 29 May 2023: British Cactus and Succulent Society Lea Valley & Havering Branches Joint Show
On Saturday 27th May 2023, Sunday 28th May 2023, and Bank Holiday Monday 29th May 2023, British Cactus and Succulent Society Lea Valley & Havering Branches Joint Show will be held at Capel Manor Gardens, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex, EN1 4RQ. The gardens are open from 10am to 5pm with last entry at 3.30pm. Many other events will be taking place at Capel Manor over the weekend; BCSS Lea valley & Havering Branch members and show exhibitors will get free access to the show and gardens, on production of their BCSS membership card. Saturday 3 June 2023: Pleiones and their Culture: a talk by Maren Talbot
On Saturday 3rd June 2023, Solihull & District Orchid Society are hosting their meeting at St George & St Theresa's Parish Centre, 338 Station Road, Dorridge, Solihull, West Midlands, B93 8EZ. The hall opens at 1pm with the talk commencing at 2.30pm. At every Solihull & District Orchid Society meeting there is a Table Display where Members bring in their plants which are judged and discussed. Each plant is judged using the BOC points system with the Best Species, Best Hybrid, and Best Windowsill Grown Plant receiving a Trophy each calendar year. Solihull & District Orchid Society Membership is £15 for a Single Membership or £20 for a Joint Membership. Visitors are very welcome to attend this meeting. On Saturday 3rd June 2023, the Orchid Society of Great Britain are holding their meeting at Cole Court, 150 London Road, Twickenham, London, TW1 1HD. Doors open at 1pm, the meeting starts at 1.45pm. Attendees can purchase plants from Spicesotic Plants at this meeting. There will be an OSGB Members' Show Table and an OSGB Members' Orchid Sales Table at this meeting. On Saturday 3rd June 2023, the North of England Orchid Society are holding their meeting from 10am until 3pm at Hoghton Village Hall, Blackburn Old Road, Hoghton (Near Preston) PR5 0SG. Friday 16 June 2023 - Sunday 18 June 2023: Royal Three Counties Show & Malvern International Orchid Show
Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR13 6NW. Gardeners and plant lovers will find a wide range of plants and gardening merchandise to purchase at this busy show. Orchid lovers can explore the wonders of the International Orchid Show. There is a Flower Show as well as an array of specialist nurseries and gardening experts on hand to answer questions and give advice. Twelve orchid nurseries, including overseas nurseries, plus around twenty orchid societies will be exhibiting; for more information and to see a list of exhibitors, please click here. Sunday 25 June 2023: 1 Marsh Cottages Garden Opening & Plant Sale
On Sunday 25th June 2023, the garden at 1 Marsh Cottages will be opening from 11am until 4pm for the NGS at 1 Marsh Cottages, Chilmead Lane, Nutfield Marsh, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 4ES. Saturday 19 August 2023 - Sunday 20 August 2023: Ayr & District Flower Show
Ayr & District Flower Show opens from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 19th August 2023 and Sunday 20th August 2023 at Ayr Racecourse, 2-6 Whitletts Road, Ayr, Scotland, KA8 0JE. Tickets are only available to purchase at the gate on show days. Accompanied children under 16 are free. Free parking will be available on the grounds of the Ayr Racecourse. Staff will be on hand to help direct you. Disabled parking is available in front of the main Racecourse building. Only assisted dogs are permitted on show grounds. In addition to the competitive classes for plants, there will also be flower arranging and new classes at this years show, including handicrafts, baking, and walking sticks, as well as some other show gardens/displays. The trade stands will primarily be plants, bulbs, trees, shrubs, and associated products. As well as stands selling pots, planters, and garden equipment, there will also be a range of craft related stalls at this years show and a variety of food stalls. Saturday 26 August 2023: Poynton Horticultural & Agricultural Show
Poynton Horticultural & Agricultural Show is on Saturday 26th August 2023 at Poynton Show Ground, South Park Drive, Poynton, SK12 1BS. Poynton is situated on the fringe of the Cheshire Plain and is 11 miles south-southeast of Manchester, 7 miles north of Macclesfield, and 5 miles south of Stockport. Poynton Show ground is a short, level walk from Poynton Town centre. Visitors can see a wide range of plants, including Gladiolus, Dahlias, Chrysanthemum, Carnations, vegetables, sweet peas, and the public can enter their plants in these shows. Saturday 2 September 2023 - Sunday 3 September 2023: The Orchid Study Group’s Welsh Orchid Festival
Saturday 2nd September 2023 (open from 10am until 5pm) and Sunday 3rd September 2023 (open from 10am until 4pm) - The Orchid Study Group's Welsh Orchid Festival will be held from at Aberglasney Gardens, Llangathen, Carmarthen, Wales, SA32 8QH. Visitors can purchase rare orchid species and popular hybrids, as well as carnivorous plants, orchid companion plants, and botanical paintings. Two exciting days of orchids at Aberglasney Gardens. The weekend will be an opportunity for all orchid lovers to enjoy the very best of the UK’s orchid nurseries. With colourful and unusual species and popular hybrids for sale, as well as carnivorous plants, botanical paintings etc, there is sure to be something for everyone. There will also be experienced orchid growers on hand to provide advice and to help you with any cultivation problems you may have. Normal admission fees to the Gardens apply. Saturday 16 September 2023 - Sunday 17 September 2023: Mexican Celebration Weekend: Cactus at the Castle!
On Saturday 16th September 2023 and Sunday 17th September 2023, The World Garden at Lullingstone Castle, Eynsford, Kent, DA4 0JA will be hosting the British Cactus & Succulent Society for ‘Cactus at the Castle’. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse and buy from leading nurseries and growers. The Mammillaria Society will be at this event on Sunday the 17th September 2023. The Society is planning to run an open competitive show for Mammillaria and allied genera, plus talks and plant sales from Society members. Saturday 7 October 2023: North of England Orchid Society Members’ Auction
On Saturday 7th October 2023, the North of England Orchid Society are holding their Members' Auction from 10am until 3pm at Barton Village Hall, Barton, Preston, Lancashire, PR3 5AA. Directions: From the M6 motorway take the M55 at junction 32, and immediately leave it at the next junction (junction 1) turning north onto the A6. Pass through Broughton Newsham, Barton, (look for the Barton Grange Hotel on the right) continue up the A6 and look for the Village Hall on the right shortly afterwards. Saturday 7 October 2023: Orchid Conservation in the Americas: a talk by Phil Seaton
On Saturday 7th October 2023, Solihull & District Orchid Society are hosting their meeting at St George & St Theresa's Parish Centre, 338 Station Road, Dorridge, Solihull, West Midlands, B93 8EZ. The hall opens at 1pm with the talk commencing at 2.30pm. At every Solihull & District Orchid Society meeting there is a Table Display where Members bring in their plants which are judged and discussed. Each plant is judged using the BOC points system with the Best Species, Best Hybrid, and Best Windowsill Grown Plant receiving a Trophy each calendar year. Solihull & District Orchid Society Membership is £15 for a Single Membership or £20 for a Joint Membership. Visitors are very welcome to attend this meeting. On Saturday 4th November 2023, the Orchid Society of Great Britain Autumn Show will be held from 11am until 4pm at Wraysbury Village Hall, The Green, Wraysbury, Berkshire, TW19 5NA. There's free entry to the OSGB Autumn Show. This event is open to the public, it's a lovely opportunity to see beautiful orchids on display with cups and rosettes awarded to the best plants. Saturday 11th November 2023 and Sunday 12th November 2023 – Orchid Study Group's Orchid Educational Weekend - There will be a range of specialist orchid courses taught in parallel by qualified tutors and held at Aberglasney Gardens, Llangathen, Carmarthenshire, Wales, SA32 8QH. Should your interest in orchids, however, relate more to their cultivation than to their biology, the Orchid Study Group have put on something for you too. Alongside these courses, and available to the general public, Spicesotic Plants, one of the UK’s leading orchid suppliers, will be offering orchid plants for sale, giving short talks on orchid cultivation and demonstrating various cultivation techniques. Access to Spicesotic's stand and attendance at their talks and demonstrations will be free to the general public following entry to the Gardens, and no booking is necessary.
