Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ is a double-flowered form of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana with fully-double, snow-white coloured flowers. The blooms are beautifully complimented by this plant’s gorgeous dark-green coloured, scallop-edged foliage. Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ is a houseplant that’s available to buy online or from garden centres, nurseries, or supermarkets. In addition to this double-flowered, white form of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana that’s part of my houseplant collection, look out for Kalanchoe blossfeldiana forms with yellow, red, and pink flowers.
I have another white-flowered Kalanchoe blossfeldiana – Kalanchoe blossfeldiana var. alba, which has a similar vibe – having white flowers, but Kalanchoe blossfeldiana var. alba differs in that my plant tends to be much smaller in height and it also has open flowers, rather than the double flowers that Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ boasts. I just have two small cuttings of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana var. alba, as my plant was almost entirely wiped out by the cold temperatures when my heating broke in January 2023. I am hoping my cuttings will grow on and I’m currently enjoying my Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plant, which is in flower at the moment – I took this picture for you yesterday.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ will flourish in an location that enjoys bright but indirect light. Never place your Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plant in the shade and avoid growing Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ in any areas that are exposed to intense afternoon sunlight. Remember that the sunshine and light that a room enjoys will vary and change throughout the year and you may have to move your plant to a new area for springtime and then choose another area to grow Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ in during autumn and winter.
At the end of summer, ensure that your Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plant is in a room where the lights aren’t on every evening. Ideally, Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plants will not be grown in areas where lights are turned on at night – as the plants need to experience longer nights and shorter day lengths. It’s this change in day length that will trigger Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ to flower – so it’s important that these plants are grown in a room that’s not used in the evenings, or these plants are placed away from lights – for example – placed on a window sill behind a curtain (avoid window sills exposed to intense, direct sunlight and move your plant immediately if the leaves show any signs of scorch).
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ is a drought tolerant succulent. These plants really don’t need much attention, making them very easy to grow. When it comes to irrigation, run water through the compost from the top of the pot. I never sit Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ in a saucer of water; I always water my plants from the top and allow water to escape out of the base of the pot. When you’ve watered your plant and tipped all the excess water away, your Kalanchoe blossfeldiana plant will only need watering again when the compost around the roots has completed dried out. The surface of the compost dries out more rapidly than the compost around your plant’s roots; if you’re unsure whether to water or not I would advise you to err on the side of caution and skip watering. If you’re unsure how much moisture is in your plant’s compost, tip your plant out of its pot and examine the compost around your plant’s roots.
I have a large number of house plants, so I’ve implemented strategies to manage all of my plants efficiently and keep them all happy; I tend to grow plants that thrive in similar conditions together in groups, as this makes watering and plant care easier for me.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ will be grateful to be re-potted in fresh compost every year. I grow all of my plants in peat-free compost. The best time to repot Kalanchoe blossfeldiana plants is in springtime or after your plant has finished flowering. Select a container with holes at the base to allow water to run out the bottom of the pot; choose a container that’s just one sizes larger than your plant’s current pot, and use peat-free compost. My Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plant is potted in a peat-free, free-draining mix of homemade compost and sandy garden soil. These plants thrive in a free-draining compost and should be watered and then left so the compost is left to dry out completely before the plant is watered again. If you’re unsure whether to water your Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ plant or not – I would advise skipping this watering and reviewing your plant in a few days or a week’s time.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Perfect White’ is a tender plant that should never be exposed to temperatures below a minimum night-time winter temperature of 13C (55F).
