Lathyrus odoratus ‘Wild Swan’ is a beautiful white flowered sweet pea that produces these very pretty frilly flowers. The blooms are large in size, with an attractive form and quite a nice scent. This is a good choice of cultivar if you desire sweet peas for cut flowers, or you’re growing for exhibition, or to enhance your summer garden.
Plant Lathyrus odoratus ‘Wild Swan’ in a sunny or partially shaded position, in any moist but well-drained soil. Lathyrus odoratus ‘Wild Swan’ plants will eventually grow up to about 1.8m (6ft) tall, depending on their soil, situation and growing conditions. These climbing plants will need a wigwam, a wire fence, or a trellis to climb; it’s far easier to install your supports at planting time, than to attempt to do this retrospectively. Keep your sweet pea plants well watered during periods of drought and pick your flowers at least once a week, to encourage your plants to produce their maximum harvest.
Introduced in 2003, Lathyrus odoratus ‘Wild Swan’ was bred by Dr. Keith Hammett, in New Zealand.
