Orlaya grandiflora is a gorgeous plant!  Looking like a rather glamorous cross between cow parsley and a lace cap Hydrangea, Orlaya grandiflora makes a great addition to the garden.

I love Orlaya grandiflora for so many reasons: it looks wonderful in the garden, befitting meadow or prairie plantings, cottage gardens; suiting modern or traditional styles.  It makes a beautiful cut flower and encourages hoverflies, bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects, into the garden.

You don’t need a huge garden to grow Orlaya grandiflora, you could cultivate your plants in containers.  Plants grow to around 60cm (2ft) tall and 30cm (1ft) wide – depending of course on your soil and the plant’s growing conditions.

Orlaya grandiflora is a great plant to grow, if you want to encourage hoverflies to your garden.  Bees and butterflies also appreciate Orlaya grandiflora‘s flowers.  While gardeners appreciate Orlaya grandiflora plants‘ long flowering season, Orlaya grandiflora usually blooms from June to October, in the UK.  Dead-head your plants regularly, to prolong your plants’ flowering.

This is an annual plant – plants grow, flower, and die within a year, so you’ll need to sow seeds or purchase new plants every year.  Seeds of Orlaya grandiflower can be sown in autumn – if you have a cold frame or glasshouse to protect your plants.  These earlier grown plants tend to be larger and flower earlier.  Alternatively sow seeds in early springtime, to produce plants that will flower later the same year.
