Phalaenopsis malipoensis

Family: Orchidaceae

Countries: Asia, China, Vietnam, Yunnan

Phalaenopsis malipoensis is a miniature, epiphytic orchid species, which originates from China and Vietnam, where this orchid can be found growing upon the branches of trees, in woodland glades.  Phalaenopsis malipoensis enjoys bright, filtered, indirect light, and very humid growing conditions.  This orchid species enjoys intermediate to warm temperatures in its native environment.

In the spring and summertime, Phalaenopsis malipoensis plants produce pretty little white flowers with pale orange markings, which are about 2cm (0.8″) in size.  This is not the easiest orchid to flower, my plants have produced flower buds which have blasted on at least three occasions.  You can follow my Phalaenopsis malipoensis plants through my regular terrarium updates.  If you’re interested, you can see Phalaenopsis malipoensis in flower in this update, here.

Alternatively, you can follow another of my Phalaenopsis malipoensis specimens, and see this plant as it grows, develops, and flowers, from April 2018 to March 2019, in this update for my Rainforest Terrarium, here.
