Phalaenopsis pulchra is a rather charming epiphytic orchid species from the Philippines.  The second part of this orchid’s botanical name – the specific epithet – is taken from the latin ‘pulcher’ which means beautiful.  Plants produce vibrant, rather glamorous, shocking pink flowers which have a polished, glossy sheen.  This is a very popular and beautiful orchid.  Phalaenopsis pulchra produces vivid pink flowers that really have the wow factor, but this plant is very handsome even when it’s not in bloom, its smooth leaves are held with a certain elegance and poise.

Looking to grow more orchids?  Phalaenopsis pulchra has a tendency to produce a terrific number of keikis or baby plants.  These new baby plants can be left attached to their mother plant to form a large congregation and create a substantial specimen plant; or alternatively, the keikis can be removed when the young plants have formed substantial root systems and are resilient enough to sustain themselves.

If you wish to retain your plant’s keikis and create a specimen plant, ensure that you mount your plant onto a sizeable piece of cork that will have sufficient room to accommodate your future acquisitions.  Phalaenopsis pulchra is a small sized orchid, but because of its readiness to produce keikis, large plants are easily created.

Phalaenopsis pulchra requires consistent growing conditions, warm to hot temperatures, high humidity, and regular watering, throughout the year.
