Rosa ‘William Lobb’ is an Old Rose that was bred by Laffay.  One of the Centifolia Group of Moss Roses; these plants produce stems that are coated with a great many spines, these spines start at their base and continue upwards, to the tip of every flower bud.  The distinctive, green mossy growth that decorates Rosa ‘William Lobb’ flowers and buds, gives the plant an ethereal quality, which I adore.  With its magenta-purple coloured blooms, this is a fragrant rose that flowers once a year.  While the plant is in bloom, Rosa ‘William Lobb’ creates a beautiful floral display in early and mid summer.

Plants tend to form open shrubs, with arching stems and lax growth.  These roses are quite versatile, as Rosa ‘William Lobb’ can be trained and grown as a short climber or grown as a shrub.  Plant in moist, but well-drained soil, in full sunshine or partial shade.

Rosa ‘William Lobb’ grows to around 1.8m (6ft) tall, depending of course on the plant’s growing conditions.
