Tomato ‘Blue Fire’

Family: Solanaceae

If you’re thinking of growing tomatoes, there are so many different coloured tomatoes you could grow other than the traditionally seen red tomatoes.  Tomato ‘Blue Fire’ produces eye catching fruit, that begin life as you’d expect – as greenish coloured tomatoes.  These tomatoes soon darken to a deep violet-blue-black colour; the fruit finally ripen to a burnished copper red colour, which is striped with a violet blue hue and enhanced with incredibly beautiful, gold coloured streaks and splashes.  The combination of these colours results in a truly striking looking, shining tomato; ‘Blue Fire’ tomatoes are magnificent!

Tomato ‘Blue Fire’ is an intermediate (cordon) tomato cultivar.  Plants produce mostly medium sized fruits, along with a few small and quite a number of larger sized tomatoes.  The fruit can be enjoyed after harvest and eaten fresh, or they can be used in many culinary delights, from ketchup, pasta sauces, soups, or any tomato recipe you decide to prepare.

I’ve found that ‘Blue Fire’ tomatoes store and last well.  They don’t go over as quickly as the fruits of many other tomato cultivars.  If you’re interested in growing tomatoes, you’ll find more detailed articles about growing tomatoes (including my Tomato Trials), here.
